7100 Nano Packet Optical Transport Platform

Enable Cost-effective Metro Growth

Network operators rely on the Infinera 7100 Packet Optical Transport Solutions to confront the challenges of escalating metro bandwidth, increasingly unpredictable traffic patterns and evolving end-user services and applications. Supporting a flexible set of technologies, the 7100 Series addresses a broad range of applications including business and wholesale Ethernet services, mobile backhaul, fixed broadband backhaul, Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) migration, router interconnect, data center interconnect, cloud connect, storage area network (SAN) services, native video services and private enterprise networks. The 7100 Series, including the 7100 Nano, 7100 Pico and 7100 PSX-3S, offers flexible and feature-rich packet-optical solutions for metro networks of any size, enabling cost-effective growth while minimizing operational costs.

The 7100 Nano is a field-proven 5 rack unit (5RU) flexibly configurable platform for metro transport that can be deployed as a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM), Optical Transport Network (OTN) or SONET/SDH add/drop multiplexer (ADM), a passive or amplified wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) system with transparent 10 gigabits (10G)/100G, an optical line amplifier (OLA), a standalone packet switch or a combination of multiple technologies. The 7100 Nano supports a wide range of client interfaces from 155 megabits per second (Mb/s) to 100 gigabits per second (Gb/s), including Ethernet, SONET/SDH, OTN, Fibre Channel and native video. Fabricless switching via the meshed backplane enables an aggregate 1.2 terabits per second (Tb/s) of packet interface capacity. Optical layer options include ROADM-on-a-blade with support for up to 8 degrees and 88 channels, optional directionless and colorless/directionless add/drop, integrated optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) and the mix and match functionalities of the Pluggable Optical Layer.

The 7100 Pico is a 2RU platform that extends services to the metro edge and enables metro access applications. The platform can be deployed as an OTN ADM, a passive or amplified WDM system with transparent 10G/100G, an OLA, a standalone packet switch, customer premises equipment (CPE) or a combination of multiple technologies. The 7100 Pico supports a wide range of client interfaces from 155 Mb/s to 100 Gb/s, including Ethernet, SONET/SDH, OTN, Fibre Channel and native video. Fabricless switching via the backplane enables up to 400 Gb/s packet switching. The 7100 Pico supports active optical layer pluggables, including a wide range of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) that can be deployed alongside the passive elements of the Pluggable Optical Layer to support a wide variety of coarse wavelength-division multiplexing (CWDM) and dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) applications.

The 7100 PSX-3S leverages the same feature-rich packet switching software as the 7100 Nano and 7100 Pico in a 1RU packet switch platform optimized for aggregation and access applications. Providing up to 376 Gb/s with a flexible mix of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 10 GbE, OTU2 and GbE interfaces, the highly compact platform can be deployed as a standalone unit or as part of a solution including end-to-end management with other platforms in the Infinera packet-optical portfolio.
